Mississippi Pot Roast- Electric Pressure Cooker - Recipes That Crock! (15)
Made this last night in Electric Pressure Cooker using a 4lb Rump Roast. Flavor was excellent but meat was not tender and was dry. I have never had that problem before but wondered if it was because my rump roast had zero fat/marbling and maybe I should have used a different cut? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

      Hi Jeff-
We haven’t tried a rump roast in the pressure cooker before, but I do believe the marbling would make a big difference in texture, flavor and moisture. I would try it again with a chuck roast and you should have a much different result. Hope that helps, Cris

If you were to have forgotten to thaw your chuck roast, can you cook it frozen? How long do you add to the recipe time? Thank you!!!

Wow! Great recipe. I added one onion cut into big chunks. When almost done, I’ll add a bag of little carrots, then a few minutes later, I’ll add some chunks of potatoes. Excellent one pot meal! Thanks!!!!!!!!

What is the difference between an electric pressure cooker and a crock pot? ›

Even though both can produce similar results, there is a main difference between a slow cooker and a pressure cooker. A slow cooker will cook food longer at a lower temperature, whereas a pressure cooker uses hot steam to cook food much quicker.

Should roast be covered with liquid in pressure cooker? ›

While you may cover meat almost completely for a conventional braise, use just enough liquid for the cooker to reach pressure – during pressure cooking the meat will release it's own juice and braise in that flavorful liquid, instead.

Can you overcook a roast in a pressure cooker? ›

It's tough, less flavorful, and dry. How to tell if your meat is way overcooked in the pressure cooker? It's tenderized, but dry and flavorless (without the sauce). Some people call this the distinct “pressure cooker taste”.

What is the difference between a pressure cooker and an electric pressure cooker? ›

The bottom line: Electric pressure cookers offer convenience and multiple functions, but generally at lower pressure. On the other hand, stovetop pressure cookers have higher pressure and faster cooking abilities but require manual control and more expertise to use effectively.

How long to cook in pressure cooker vs slow cooker? ›

Generally, if your slow cooker meat, soup, or stew recipe calls for 8 hours on the low setting or about 4 hours on the high setting, it should be fully cooked in about 25 to 30 minutes in the Instant Pot. For chicken or turkey, use the 15-minute poultry button. While volume doesn't matter, density does.
