Kengan Ashura Season 3: Release Date, Trailer, Plot, Cast & More (2024)

Kengan Ashura by Yabako Sandrovich is an ongoing martial arts manga series about modern-day gladiators who fight for wealthy people’s pleasure. The first manga was published from 2012 to 2018, containing a total of 27 volumes (plus an extra one), while the second manga, Kengan Omega, is currently on its ninth volume. Netflix has adapted the manga into an ONA series, with two seasons currently being out and a third one possibly on the way.

There has been no official information on a third season of Kengan Ashura, neither from Netflix nor the anime’s Japanese production company. Seeing how the show remains popular and there certainly is more material to adapt, a third season seems likely in the future.

The rest of this article is going to bring you all the known and unknown information related to the third season of Kengan Ashura. You’re going to find out about its potential release date, whether there is a trailer, what the story could be about, and much more.

Kengan Ashura Season 3 Release Date

When Netflix first released Kengan Ashura, it was released in two batches of twelve episodes and classified as an ONA series. ONA series are, traditionally, shorter in length and while Kengan Ashura is a full-fledged anime series, the fact that it was released via an online streaming platform makes it an ONA series.

The first 12-episode batch, i.e., the show’s first season was released on Netflix on July31,2019. The second season batch was released just several months later, on October31,2019. The total number of episodes released on Netflix thus reached 24 and since then, there have been no new episodes.

Now, since 2019, there have been no new developments as far as Kengan Ashura is concerned. Neither Netflix nor Larx Entertainment, the show’s Japanese producer, have released any information on the show and as far as official news is concerned, we don’t know whether a third season of Kengan Ashura will be released. The upside of this is that we also haven’t gotten an official cancellation notice either.

Now, is a third season of Kengan Ashura likely? We think it is. Martial arts anime are quite popular these days, as evidenced by the success of the Baki series. Kengan Ashura is not as popular, but it’s similar in both style and plot, which explains its popularity. This means that there is a dedicated fanbase that wants more Kengan Ashura episodes and that is one of the main facts the producers consider.

Another big factor is the fact that the two seasons that have aired so far haven’t adapted the whole manga. There are other plot details that the show could adapt, and that is a great thing for such a show, in case the producers opt for a third season.

Now, combining these two facts, we deduce that a Kengan Ashura season three is quite likely. When it will happen remains a mystery, but seeing how we still don’t have any news, we assume we won’t be seeing it before late 2022 or, which is even more likely, 2023. This, of course, only if the producers confirm it sometime before Summer 2022.

Kengan Ashura Season 3 Trailer

There is no trailer for a third season of Kengan Ashura simply because a third season of Kengan Ashura has not been announced. The series is probably going to return, but until we get an official confirmation of the production start, we won’t be seeing a trailer. The earliest we could see a trailer is summer 2022, but that all depends on when the producers plan on releasing the potential third season.

Kengan Ashura Season 3 Plot

Since the Edo era, in certain areas of Japan, there have been arenas for fighters, where entrepreneurs and wealthy traders hire them to make them fight in bare-knuckle fights in which whoever wins can dominate the market.

In modern times, these fights still take place in secret form between the great entrepreneurs around the world. Ōma Tokita is a fighter with a mysterious past, whose fate accidentally crosses over with that of Kazuo Yamash*ta, a middle-aged man without a backbone, very fearful and submissive, an employee of the entrepreneur Nogi, a shrewd and unscrupulous businessman.

Tokita and Yamash*ta are thus involved by Nogi in a dangerous tournament called “Kengan”. Ōma immediately demonstrates his superior technique and will have the opportunity to settle some outstanding bills for years, while Yamash*ta will have to pose as an entrepreneur for a bizarre strategy developed by Nogi.

Now, the paragraphs above were an overview of the manga’s plot that gives you an idea of how things function in the world of Kengan Ashura. It’s a relatively simple plot to follow and the anime has, thus far, followed the manga quite faithfully. Now, when season two ended, we saw Ashura win his second-round fight in the Kengan tournament.

Assuming that season three won’t deviate from the general concept and structure, we are going to see Ashura continue fighting in the tournament, with the third-round fight being next in line. How much of the plot would we eventually see? That remains a mystery, but the producers will probably opt for at least one more season after season three.

Kengan Ashura Season 3 Cast

Since we don’t have any official info about the third season of Kengan Ashura, we can only speculate that the main cast from the first two seasons, both the Japanese and English voice actors, will return. This, of course, depends on the production dates and everything else, but this has been the case with most anime so far, so we don’t see why it wouldn’t happen here. So, who would return? Here is a list:

Ōma Tokita

Voiced by: Tatsuhisa Suzuki (Japanese); Kaiji Tang (English)

Ōma Tokita, also known as Ashura, is a man who loves to fight. He entered the Kengan Association, fighting for the Nogi Group. During the Kengan Annihilation Tournament, Ohma fought for Yamash*ta Trading Co. with Kazuo Yamash*ta as her employer. Two years later, he entered the Kengan Association VS Purgatory tournament as a representative of the Kengan Association.

Kazuo Yamash*ta

Kazuo Yamash*ta is a former employee of the second sales department of Nogi Publishing. He ended up becoming Ōma Tokita’s manager for the Kengan matches and was subsequently trained to become a member of the Kengan Association so that Ōma could earn a spot in the Kengan Annihilation Tournament. He is currently CEO of Yamash*ta Trading Co., a company linked to the Kengan Association.

Hideki Nogi

Voiced by: Jōji Nakata (Japanese); Michael C. Pizzuto (English)

Hideki Nogi is the CEO of Nogi Group and the current president of the Kengan Association.

Kaede Akiyama

He was the first fighter-president in the history of the Kengan Association. Two years later, Lihito was chosen as one of 13 Kengan Association representatives in the Kengan Association VS Purgatory tournament.

Jun Sekibayashi, also known as Hell Angel, is a famous Super Japan Pro wrestler as well as an affiliate fighter in Kengan Matches. He represented Gandai in the Kengan Annihilation Tournament.

Cosmo Imai

Voiced by: Junya Enoki (Japanese); Bryce Papenbrook (English)

Imai Cosmo, also known as the King of Stranglers, is one of the affiliated fighters employed by the Nishihonji Security Service. He represented the Nishihonji Security Service at the Kengan Annihilation Tournament.

Setsuna Kiryū

Voiced by: Daisuke Namikawa (Japanese); Todd Haberkorn (English)

Setsuna Kiryū, also known as Beautiful Beast, is a mysterious individual whose story is closely linked to that of Ōma Tokita. He was the Koyo Academy Group Affiliate Fighter in the last Kengan Annihilation Tournament. Two years after the tournament, he suddenly reappears interacting with Gaoh Ryuki.

Will There Be a Kengan Ashura Season 4?

Well, we currently don’t have any official information on the third season of Kengan Ashura, so it is probably too early to speculate about a fourth season, but based on what we know, a potential fourth season doesn’t seem that unlikely. Why do we think that?

Well, Kengan Ashura is, for starters, quite popular. It might not be popular as Baki in the same genre and certainly not as popular as the “Big Four”, but it has a solid fanbase and such fans definitely want more, so a target audience exists. Also, Kengan Ashura is an ongoing manga series and there is more than enough material for a potential fourth season.

Seeing how the probable third season won’t complete the story, the chances of a fourth season seem quite solid at this time.
