The first time I had fried goat cheese medallions was on a spinach salad with warm bacon dressing. So many good flavors together! If you make a couple of extras you can save them and serve them when you make a charcuterie and cheese board. Warm or cold, fried goat cheese is amazing! Try it garnished with a crumble of dried sage leaves.

📝 Notes on the ingredients

  • Goat Cheese - I like a medium firm goat cheese log
  • Flour - all purpose flour works well for this recipe. Read why the type of flour matters in some recipes in my post of baking definition.
  • Panko bread crumbs - I prefer the crunch and texture of panko bread crumbs for this recipe instead of the homemade bread crumbs that I make for other recipes.
  • Egg, Beaten
  • Everything but the bagel seasoning (optional)

I made it exactly how the recipe is written as this is something I always do and it was perfect as is....no changes were needed. Thank you so much for sharing!!! so yummy

What type of goat cheese is best for frying?

I use a plain 4-ounce log of goat cheese that I find in the cheese case at my grocery store. Feel free to use a flavored goat cheese such as honey goat cheese or goat cheese with herbs.
If you are making a double or triple batch, get the larger goat cheese log. I like the log because it can easily be scooped out if I am making balls or simply sliced with dental floss to make the goat cheese disks.Fried Goat Cheese Recipe - Easier Than You Think! (5)

What is an easy way to slice goat cheese?

An easy tip for slicing goat cheese: Use unscented dental floss. (A tip from Judy)

    FAQs

How do you make goat cheese taste better? ›

    Adding Flavors

You can mix herbs, fruit, jam, nuts, seeds, or even balsamic vinegar right into the goat cheese.

What makes a good goat cheese? ›

Good fresh goat cheese is a special and important thing. It should be moist and creamy, without a hint of graininess. Its flavor should be clean and fresh, mouthwateringly tangy but not astringent, lemony but also milky and balanced. An unaged cheese has nowhere to hide its faults.

How long does it take to soften goat cheese? ›

Allow the goat cheese to soften at room temperature for 10-15 minutes. Place all ingredients in the bowl of a stand mixer and whip for 2-3 minutes until light and airy.

How to make goat cheese more palatable? ›

    Add your favorite mix-ins

For bigger, bolder flavor, add a few mix-ins when you blend this goat cheese dip. Some of our favorites: 1-2 Tablespoons lemon juice or a sprinkle of lemon zest for a bright pop of flavor. A handful of fresh herbs (basil, chives, parsley, cilantro, dill, rosemary, and sage are all good!)

What gives goat cheese its flavor? ›

The scientific reason behind the goat flavour in goats' cheese, is that their milk has a higher amount of three smaller-chain fatty acids (caproic, capric and caprylic fat) that give those 'goaty', 'barnyardy' flavours.

What is the difference between chevre and goat cheese? ›

It sure is! “Chevre” means both “goat” and “goat cheese” in French and is frequently used to refer to fresh goat cheeses in particular. Fresh goat cheese, or chevre, is bright, tart, tangy, and delicious, but goat cheese comes in all shapes, sizes, and ages.

Is goat cheese healthy to eat everyday? ›

Goat cheese is a nutritious dairy product that is packed with vitamins, minerals and healthy fats. Eating goat cheese may benefit your health in several ways, including increasing satiety and reducing inflammation.

What are the disadvantages of goat cheese? ›

Saturated fat content: Despite being lower in fat than some other cheeses, goat cheese does contain saturated fats. Diets high in saturated fats have been linked to increased levels of cholesterol, potentially impacting heart health. Moderation is key to enjoying the benefits without the drawbacks.

What is the name of the Spanish goat cheese? ›

    Queso Ibores

Traditionally produced in the province of Cáceres, Ibores is a semi-soft to semi-hard cheese made from raw milk from the Serrana, Verata, and Retinta goat breeds.

    Is brie goat cheese? ›

Brie is a young, soft-ripened cheese with a creamy paste, an edible bloomy rind, and a distinctive aroma, usually associated with cow's milk. But many French cheesemakers use goat's milk to produce brie, and some Canadian and American producers do too.

Why is goat cheese so expensive? ›

Also, since some goat cheese is aged for longer, the labor and storage costs are increased. A lot of the time, the finished product has farther to travel because there are fewer goat milk farms. These costs get passed on to the consumers.

Why is my goat cheese rubbery? ›

Rubbery cheese can happen when an excess amount of rennet is used, too much rennet equals a rubber ball, too little, soup!

Is goat cheese ok if left out overnight? ›

Soft cheeses such as cream cheese, cottage cheese, shredded cheeses, and goat cheese must be refrigerated for safety.

Why is goat cheese so pungent? ›

Goat's milk is naturally hom*ogenized, unlike its cow counterpart. As a result, goat's milk ages much quicker. “As it ages, the milk will get progressively stronger and 'goaty-er'. The longer you take to process the milk, the stronger the “goatyness” will be in the cheese,” said Pete.

What does goat cheese taste best with? ›

    Fresh fruit

In summer, you might combine fresh goat cheese with slices of peach, apricot or nectarine, or even red berries (cherries or redcurrants). Once autumn arrives, choose apples, pears, figs or grapes as the perfect accompaniment to more aged cheeses.

How do you get the gamey taste out of goats? ›

The distinct game flavor of either birds or animals will be milder after soaking the meat overnight in the refrigerator in either a salt or vinegar solution. 2. Vinegar solution - 1 cup per quart of cold water. Use enough solution to cover the game completely.

How do you get the best tasting goat milk? ›

Good quality feed, water, and minerals are mandatory. I have heard some say that mineral deficiencies can cause off-tasting milk, but I have not personally experienced that. Goats that browse on wild onions, various mints, and garlic are also prone to unpleasantly-flavored milk. Wash and dry the udder before milking.
